The Window-2

Hybrid-format group show with works by the artists from the gallery program

Works

Through The Window viewers from outside of the gallery are able to have a look at works from gallery artists. In the second chapter of this format we are featuring a deconstruction of the famous work by Piet Mondrian – an emotional interpretation by Anne-Lise Coste. Next to the piece the Ceramic Whispers by Clare Goodwin tells a different visual story. She chose to work with the standard-sized, hand-produced traditional Azulejos tiles recognising their significance to the history of the factory and the region as a manufacturing nation. A new Banner / David Bowie by Franziska Furter features a poetic bittersweet quote from David Bowie’s iconic song Space Oddity and opens the field for a Pop aesthetic on the left side of The Window.

Quote: I’M FLOATING IN A MOST PECULIAR WAY - AND THE STARS LOOK VERY DIFFERENT TODAY - FOR HERE AM I SITTING IN A TIN CAN - FAR ABOVE THE WORLD - PLANET EARTH IS BLUE - AND THERE’S NOTHING I CAN DO

David Bowie (1947-2016), Space Oddity (1969)

Center piece in the window takes another work by Slawomir Elsner. This mesmerizing large-format watercolor from the series Just Watercolors radiates with a sense of calm and contemplation. He applies in a daily repetition layers of watercolor evenly on a lying paper. Before laying a new color he waits until the pigments have dried, settled and spread on the sheet, therefore creating a controlled but at the same time random effect. The Danish artist Benedikte Bjerre created this work Mania 2017 during her residency at The Ateliers in Amsterdam. It alludes to the bubble of the Dutch Tulip bulp Market in the 16th century. The Tulip Mania is transformed into our time with a gothic twist.

Benedikte Bjerre, Mania, 2017, pigment print on Carson Baryta paper, 44 x 32 cm

CHF 2’400.--

Slawomir Elsner, From the Series Just Watercolors (069), 2020, watercolour on paper, 168 x 110 cm

Next to these works is a crumpled upholstered patent soft sculpture by wiedemann/mettler with the uplifting title bluish encouragement – a leather star of a deep blue color and shiny smooth texture. The final work of the selection is Pierre Haubensak’s BP-Boxes, an early painting of his first presented in his solo exhibition “Shaped Canvases” in 2014 – the geometric shape and the sensual color presence engage in an architectural interplay which dominates the space and concludes the selection.
